76th Independence Day Celebrations with the Senior Citizens at THE TOLANIS:

The Independence Day reminds every Indian of the beginning of a new era, the start of a new life free from bondage and slavery. It is for the same reason that Independence Day is given so much importance and celebrated in a very grand manner across the country.

The event included raising the National Flag, fashion show with the team representing the culture of different states of India, play acts on freedom fighter’s songs and various movements, traditional dances, solo, singing the National Anthem and so on.  Vibrant cultural performances added colour to the proceedings. Kathak dance performance by one of the members of the team traced the history of India, another solo performance paid tribute to the armed forces of the country with the Indian classic song ‘Ae Mere Watan Ki Logon’ (Come, People of My Land). Calls of ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ (victory to Mother India) and ‘vande mataram’ (I bow to thee, Mother) rang through the air. They observed in commemoration and honour of all the people who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country.

Inclusion, Acceptance, Unity in Diversity was the sole motto of this event. Johanna, a 7-year-old girl, diagnosed with a rare genetic neurological disorder was invited to the event by Ms Veena Uttamchandani, founder of Rising Stars.

If we want to include everyone, we must help everyone develop their talents and use their gifts for the good of the community. That’s what inclusion means– everyone contributes. Diversity was being invited to the party; inclusion was being asked to dance.

It was with the constant and determined years of non-violent efforts of the freedom fighters that India got its independence on the 15th of August 1947. Independence Day is remembered and celebrated religiously all over the globe as the citizens commemorate the struggle for freedom.
