The tale of the world’s youngest storyteller.
Shanaya Singh is 9 and is the world’s youngest storyteller from the city of joy Kolkata to narrate stories on international and national platforms. She holds a world record in The Asia Book Of Records,International Book Of World Records, America Book Of Records and India Book Of Records for being the worlds youngest storyteller. Shanaya is also a published author. She tells stories to virtual audiences around the world and also performs live storytelling sessions.
When kids of her age are glued to cartoon channels,mobile phones and video games,
Shanaya Singh tells stories to the audience on a virtual platform on weekends. Shanaya runs a free online storytelling and reading club for the children to help them develop the habit of reading culture. She also wants to give them a platform where they can narrate stories. The weekends are busy time for Shanaya hosting storytelling sessions for the children of her reading club on different platforms. Shanaya also has a flair for writing and has written many stories for kids. 9 years old Shanaya is also multi talented who loves to dance, swim and play the violin.Shanaya started her journey of storytelling a very tender age of 6 and had also set a world record.
She Often dresses in suitable costumes and narrates stories with her props. Shanaya enjoys narrating stories from Tagore, Sudha Murthy, Ruskin Bond and Panchatantra . Shanaya is very confident while narrating her stories on the computer screen.She takes her into a world of fiction with her mesmerising storytelling skills.
“I want to be a storyteller and an author when I grow up,” says the wonder child who is a student of Mahadevi Birla World Academy. Studying in Class IV. Shanaya has already told stories in various national and international forums and earned many accolades. She has also won the India Reading Olympiad and had received an invitation from and foundation of The United States Of America to perform .She was also felicitated by them.
“An invitation from children’s author Tony Cranston to perform online at Talking Stories hosted by East London Radio was the turning point in Shanaya’s life.
A fan of Sudha Murty’s short stories, Shanaya loves to tell stories on friendship and on issues that kids will identify with. Many of her tales are timeless. “I once read The Postmaster by Rabindranath Tagore and decided to tell that my way,” said the girl, who uses voice modulation and her own props to spice up her performance. In case of The Postmaster, Shanaya wore a white and red sari while paying a tribute to the bard. One of her best experiences was to tell stories to children of a school in Kashmir, The Indian Museum and her first school Mongrace Montessori House. She also enjoyed doing a storytelling session for the underprivileged children of CRY India.
I want more children to read and enjoy the world of stories. That’s what kept me going during the pandemic when I was missing my school and all my friends said Shanaya. Shanaya is favourite among her friends, Shanaya is always ready with her stories which she narrates in her own style.
Shayana is making a list of books that are a must-read for all which includes Ruskin Bond, Roald Dahl, Sudha Murthy and Enid Blyton.
Shanaya is also coming soon with a story book for children which is written by her.
